Pentax K200D

So my lovely girlfriend came good on Christmas day and presented me with a K200D body. I was very happy, until I realised she didn’t get me a lens and it would be a couple of days before I could play with my new toy. After seeing me trying to hide my disappointment she decides to reveal where she’s hidden the 18-55 Lens she did indeed get with the camera. She then proceeded to laugh for a full 5 minutes.

Did I say lovely? I meant twisted.

A review will be posted when I work out how to use the thing.

Here are some of my very first attempts at dSLR photography on Christmas day. The animals belong to my nephews the helicopter belongs to my good friend Dr Ax0r. You can see my effort with a lightbox and macro photos below. (Click for fullsize)

Ghetto Lightbox!

So you need to make some decent macro shots? You’ll need a lightbox or tent of some type.

I threw one together out of an old cardboard box, plenty of white paper, a white sheet and a couple of lamps.

Then I took some photos of batteries for my next review.

Link your ghetto light box in comments, or send me a pic and I’ll post it.

MSI Wind U100…. and others

For my first review I will be looking at the MSI Wind U100.

Many netbooks have cropped up since the original Asus 7″ eeePC was launched earlier this year. When it came to choosing a netbook to replace my dear girlfriend’s aging “Dusk and Dawn” Shuttle I had to sift through the many choices before settling on the MSI Wind.

As this machine was to serve as a primary computer anything that was built around 8GB or even 16GB of flash was out. We needed a real computer in netbook clothing. I went down to see the boys at PC Market who I have been dealing with in my professional capacity for many years now.

After some discussions, the serious contenders were:

MSI Wind U100 @ $649

Acer Aspire One @ $649

Asus eeePC 904HA @ $649 (more…)

Short Sharp Reviews of 1337 Tech

In my work life and my personal life I come across all sorts of cool tech. There’s a lot of review sites out there but they’re often too technical or irrelevant for everyday use. Here’s one where a guy who likes tech gives you quick and dirty reviews about interesting things.

I’m happy to take requests for reviews of anything that’s cool, mildly 1337, uberpro or anywhere in between. I’m also happy to take samples for review.

When I became a man I put away childish things….or did I?

So I figure I’m old enough to have a blog now - everyone else does. I guess some of it will have to be devoted to serious things.

For now, here’s a video of me convincing my dog Dusk to do the trick where she feeds herself out of the bin we keep her food in.
